We support to Louisiana Purchase and the War of 1812 and the Monroe Doctrine
The Louisiana Purchase is a huge benefit that can help our country grow in power, size, and influence. The expansion of our lands will make our American people happy and give them more opportunities. As antifederalists we are searching to aid America as much as we can and we know that this is what the majority of people want, especially considering that the majority of people are farmers the Louisiana purchase would grant them more farm land to bring in more overall profit to America and develop the self sustainable American dream. "By the majority of the people the purchase was approved" (http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/preservation/history/louis/chpt7.htm). Also, it is clear that as Anti Federalists our president Thomas Jefferson has benevolent intentions for the country: "In October, 1803, Congress met. Jefferson himself was a strict constructionist of the Constitution, and believed in states rights" (http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/preservation/history/louis/chpt7.htm). Jefferson wanted equal representation of all and he never wants to negatively affect anyone, which is why he though through the Louisiana Purchase so thoroughly. Obviously this purchase is best for the majority of people in America and your intentions as Federalists are already corrupt and filled with greed: "The New England Federalists, foreseeing a lessening of their power through the admission of southern and western states, were strenuous antagonists of the measure" (http://www.usgennet.org/usa/topic/preservation/history/louis/chpt7.htm). We the Anti Federalists seek to better our country and avoid any possible corruption and greed. The Federalist ways have already become corrupt and greedy within such a short period of time that we can no longer take your opinions seriously or with great value. We will not fall into your manipulation and we will prove the Louisiana Purchase for the grater good of America!
The war of 1812 will be a great success once we win. The British think they can impress our American sailors and seize our cargo and get away with it. We need to prove our power once and for all. We will attack Canada to cut off the British supply lines to the Indian confederation just as the British restricted us from trading with France and we will control the Detroit frontier to break off communications between the British and other nations to the west (www.archives.gov). We Americans will learn our ability to defend our freedom and it will unify the American people with this. We will not fear foreign threats after we win this war, but instead focus on the expansion of America (www.angelfire.com).
James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States delivered a speech to Congress about the new foreign policy in which the United States will adopt. As Anti-federalists we believe that power should not dominate the people, and we can eliminate this by the Monroe doctrine and the idea that the new world and old world were completely different. They were on different parts of the world and should be stay that way. The four points in which James Monroe delivered were “that the United States would not interfere in the internal affairs of or the wars between European powers, The United States recognized and would not interfere with existing colonies and dependencies in the Western Hemisphere, The Western Hemisphere was closed to future colonization and any attempt by a European power to oppress or control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States” (Britannica). These points allow the Americans to stay out of national affairs. Since we are a newly established country, we have the power to what we want as a government.
As Anti- Federalists, we believe that the War of 1812, The Louisiana Purchase and the Monroe Doctrine will help strengthen our country as a whole. The Monroe doctrine separates us from the old world to the new world. The Louisiana Purchase will give us more opportunities for the majority of the citizens of America and it will grant the US more profit. The War of 1812 will show the British our worth and we can obtain more land if we win.
Defense: As anti Federalists we rightly and strictly follow the constitution in order to ensure that all of the peoples possible rights are open, while our government is more restricted. In other words if the constitution does not say that we as a government CAN do something then we cannot do it. Which is why we struggled with the Louisiana Purchase at first because the constitution did not state that we could expand the United States borders. Finally we came to the conclusion that it would acceptable to move the borders, but this was only because it was in great favor by a majority of American citizens. On the other hand the federalists opposed the purchase because they sought after self-gain and power within themselves and their states. For if another state was created by this purchase they fear that another state will arise and also have voting power, which would be for our Anti Federalist party. The powerful progression of our country should have nothing to do with one state or parties gain in power. This purchase was approved by a majority of the American people and for the American people. Secondly, we support the war of 1812 as well because it is what a majority of American citizens want. The majority and our anti-federalist party will not stand aside to watch our sailors be taken captive by the British ships. We must stand up for the lives of our valued people that are at stake. No other country should be permitted to trample all over us for we are a new and free country. Lastly the monroe doctrine is a huge aid to our countries Global power and influences. As Americans, we will protect any other country that gains its freedom in order to prevent that country from once again losing its power by being absorbed into a larger country such as Britian and France. Independent countries will be protected and this will prevent power gain and rule by the British nor the French. It will keep larger countries seperated and ensure that the US will rise in greater power. It also established us as a strong, independent, influencial country. This is our new benchmark and shows that we have a high rank in the world. We will rise to a greater global power and influence for the good of America!
Attack: Federalists you seek to gain power within yourselves not your party! Thats why you do not support the Louisiana Purchase, Monroe Doctrine, and the war of 1812. You claim to rule america better through your merchant economy, but when your merchants and business get taken captive by the British you REFUSE to protect them by not supporting the war of 1812. YOUR men who support YOU are being taken and you do not care whatsoever, and then on top of that you worry about losing votes to us because the Louisiana purchase would create more land for farmers and create more states. Well if you so worried about our party gaining voters then why dont you protect yours first before you decide to restrict basicAmericans rights by rejecting the Louisiana purchase and the war of 1812. The monroe doctrine expresses that as a country we are strong, so why do you deny that? Why would you ever deny support to other countries like ourself who have just become free? All you do is reject the protection of others and complain about our countries gain of opportunities and complain about our gain of voters. There are bigger and better things to worry about than our gain of voters. Go protect your voters and others first and then come back and complain about us giving benefits to the majority of American citizens.
Anti-federalist's view is completely illogical. We are already in enough debt and have our own problems so why would we want to go fight for other countries when they already have their independence? It makes no sense to try to engage ourselves in more wars after we have already gotten out of a war that has put us in a huge hole and that we are currently trying to recover from. You guys complain about taxes and tariffs but we have to create these specifically because we need to get out of debt so why would we want to spend unnecessary money trying to fight for other countries? Speaking of the debt, we definitely don't have the kind of money to just spend it on the Louisiana Purchase and we have not even went out and seen if the land is good or not. We need to save and we should not worry about expanding right now just for the sake of expanding.
We, the Federalists of America, are against the Monroe Doctrine, the Louisiana Purchase, and the War of 1812. All three of these events are harmful to our economy and to our relationships with other countries. They keep us from expanding and maintaining relations with world powers, such as France and Britain. In order to become a world power, we must create good relationships with strong European nations for the benefit of our economy and our protection. The Monroe Doctrine is a doctrine that states we as America are obligated to protect and help other countries that are independent. Surely if that country is worth the fight for us, we should help out but to help all countries with a threat of losing independence would mean a vast majority of our nation’s wealth being spent on something that is not our cause. If we want to become a strong country, then we first must gain the trust of other strong countries. This doctrine keeps us from doing so. If one of our powerful allies is attempting to gain a country back by taking their independence, then that would mean we would have to fight against an ally. Not only does this doctrine keep us from becoming strong, it puts us in a losing fight. If Spain tries to overtake one of its former colonies, then we cannot stop it. We lack the military power and the experience to do so. All that would become of a fight with a powerful ally would be our country pounded into disarray. This doctrine also forces us to fight wars that we have no business fighting. It would destroy economic relations with said country and it would also put us at a position of threat. The Louisiana Purchase was a deal that wasted a lot of national wealth. We have no idea how much land we have just bought, and we spent 15 million dollars on it! The budget was 5 million! We are not England! Also, what do we need with this land? Sure we might want to expand our population a little but expansion to fill 15 million dollars worth of land would be hectic. The Louisiana Purchase also forces people out of the cities resulting in a work force shortage. We don’t even need the farmland. A crucial part of becoming a world power is developing good trade relations with other countries. This prevents us from doing do that. Farming would merely put us back to where we started at the beginning of our nation. Sure it’s good to be self-sufficient but we must not isolate ourselves from other countries. We must maintain our merchant international trade. The War of 1812 is an unnecessary war to say the least. We could very easily stop selling weapons to both sides of the war and keep good relations with both of them, but instead we decide to anger a giant that had nothing against us. We are not ready for this, as we have just acquired a steady military. Even if we win this war, the price will not be worth it. This war could send us into a depression and we could lose a substantial portion of military before it is even fully developed. Not to mention the effect this will have on our trade relations with England. A world power like them would be nice to trade with but now the idea is far-gone. In conclusion, we can clearly see that for the good of this nation, we need to maintain good relations with world powers for the purpose of military alliances and trade. If we ever want to be among these powers, then we should not get in their way or try to produce all of our goods by ourselves.
Defense: We do not simply seek power for our party, we seek what is good for our nation as a whole, and that is good relations with the strong nations of the world and a solid trade system. If we continued to work for a better relationship with England, than they would quit capturing our merchants at sea. If we cut off relations with them and other Europeans nations, and become self-sufficient than we would remain weak and would be possibly re-captured by one of them. Becoming a world power is more important that being self-sufficient and more important than the well being of a few sailors.
Attack: You Anti-Federalists are completely irrational and immature. You don't see the potential dangers of remaining feeble, which is what self-sufficiency would cause. And the louisiana purchase is not only immature, irresponsible. We don't know what we are buying and we don't really have the money to spend. This act could lead to the downfall of our already weak economy. And the Monroe doctrine will do nothing but put us into wars that we don't want to be in and we can't win. Supporting a weak country with another weak country will do nothing but lead to the down fall of both those countries.
For: We, Anti- Federalists, believe in protecting this country and help the US get out of the debt we are in now. The Louisiana Purchase creates more land and work for farmers and helps create more states generating more jobs for this country. More work means more money for our country. We will also gain the Port of New Orleans, which would grant this country a huge benefit such as having more opportunities for trade. Secondly, having The War of 1812 will let the British know our true independence. We will not stand for the British taking our sailors and ships and will not allow them to remove our American citizens without consideration of our independence.
Against: Let’s keep this plain and simple. The Louisiana Purchase is a waste of money. We are in enough debt, why are we going to put ourselves in more by buying land that is worth millions of dollars? Yes I know that expanding our lands can benefit our country, but now is not the right time. We can gain terrain when our country is more stable than it is currently. We also don’t need the Monroe Doctrine taking more money that we don’t have. The Monroe Doctrine along with the Louisiana Purchase hinders us from becoming a strong country if we keep throwing away our money to things we have no business getting involved in.
Being an anti-federalist, we want the best we can get for our country and the Louisiana Purchase, Monroe Doctrine and War of 1812 all benefit our country in some way. Expanding the boundries of the western part of the country will allow for more people to live and create more jobs which would help with the economy and potentially get us out of debt!!!! The monroe doctrine allows us as a country to focus on what we need to do in order to become the most powerful we can. This will keep our country out of international affairs that could of potentially led to conflict. The war of 1812 allowed for our country to expand its territory and was favored by majority of our country to protect our men out at sea.
